anniversary edition vs special edition? : r/skyrim - Reddit
The Anniversary Edition is the Special Edition with the CC content installed. Both editions share the same game and is pre-loaded with the same dlcs. The only difference is the CC content. If playing on next gen console, there is a next gen update that is free. This basically makes the game run a little smoother than the on the previous gen.

Skyrim SE Mods: An Introduction for Absolute Dummies (Like Me ... - Reddit
I'd suggest them to buy a month of premium (for automatic + fast downloads). Then go through the Skyrim SE/AE lists and pick one that's suited to them. Do they like super realistic, needs, survival gameplay? Or do they want a kitchen sink type modlist where loads of mods are installed. Could even install both lists if they want.
