Thanks for your input. It now seems that there is a JR Train station - Shin-Aomori to Hirosaki. 15 min. walk away. Train journey 49mins. The Dotemachi bus leaves from outside …

Thanks for your input. It now seems that there is a JR Train station - Shin-Aomori to Hirosaki. 15 min. walk away. Train journey 49mins. The Dotemachi bus leaves from outside Hirosaki Station, 15 min bus ride to castle gardens. So, as I thought local transport will be OK, more fun, probably quicker than a ship tour & a lot cheaper as well.

Yes the renovations are still going on. Same time last year we were blessed to see sakuras in full bloom, this time none, however it is still beautiful with or without.
