President-elect Donald Trump said he would require countries that are part of BRICS — a China- and Russia-backed group of emerging economies — to commit to not creating new currency or face 100% tariffs during his administration.

Trump is threatening 100% tariffs against a bloc of nine nations including Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa if they act to undermine the U.S. dollar.

In a post on Truth Social Saturday, President-elect Donald Trump said he would impose a 100% tariff on the BRICS geopolitical coalition of non-Western countries if the group moves away from trading using the U.

Trump also said in his post that the countries "can go find another “sucker!” There is no chance that the BRICS will replace the U.S. Dollar in International Trade, and any Country that tries should wave goodbye to America.

The group, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and others, discussed boosting non-dollar transactions at a recent summit.

Donald Trump has threatened tariffs of 100 per cent against BRICS countries unless their governments agree not to create a new currency as an alternative to US dollar.

The proposed tariffs would remain until those nations commit to not backing a new currency to replace the dollar, Trump said.

President-elect Trump on Saturday threatened the developing countries known the the BRICS bloc with "100% tariffs" if they try to move away or replace the dollar.

In the 2023 BRICS Summit, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula de Silva pitched a proposal to study the feasibility of a new common currency. However, India has made it clear that it is not against the Dollar.

BRICS, formed in 2009, is the only major international group of which the United States is not a part. Its other members are South Africa, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates.
