Two seasons into Bryce Young’s tumultuous professional career, it is perhaps most fair to declare what he is not rather than postulate what he is. Young is not, contrary to his earliest returns with a horrible Carolina Panthers team (that included being benched last September ), a total bust.

After losing 19-10 to Pittsburgh, the Carolina Panthers finished the preseason 0-3. They open the regular season on Sept. 7 at Jacksonville.

Dave Canales’s Panthers had some promising moments in the team’s Week 1 preseason loss to the Browns. There were none of those in the recent setback at Houston.

He was taken with the No. 1 overall pick in 2023, labored during his rookie campaign, was benched early in Year 2 and then regained his job while being mighty impressive throughout the second half of 2024.

The Carolina Panthers are not going to play their starters in the final preseason game this week. They got about four series on each side of the ball to prepare
