For once, Cooper Flagg looked 17 years old. Duke’s freshman forward, whose polished game has made him the odds-on favorite to be the first pick in June’s NBA draft, found himself cornered by two Kansas defenders.

Tyrese Proctor led Duke (4-2) with 15 points, Flagg scored 13, Kon Knueppel had 11 and Sion James finished with 10. Mayo put Kansas ahead for good when he made a jumper with 1:57 left for a 73-71 lead. Flagg hit a free throw for Duke and Rylan Griffen answered with two foul shots with 2 seconds left.

On that play, Flagg drove to the basket on big man Hunter Dickinson. Adams arrived to help and swatted Flagg’s shot. He tried to recover the ball but knocked it out of bounds. On the next Duke possession, Adams stopped a three-on-one fast break by swatting Kon Knueppel’s shot at the rim.
