LOS ANGELES -- Not long after the Detroit Red Wings selected him with the No. 13 overall pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, Carter Bear revealed he was still processing all the emotions of his life-changing Friday night at L.A. Live’s Peacock Theater.

Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman explored making a trade around the NHL draft, which takes place this weekend, June 27-28. The Wings entered the event holding their first pick at No. 13 – and exited the first round having held onto it and choosing forward Carter Bear.

The Detroit Red Wings liked Carter Bear’s combination of competitiveness and scoring ability, traits their current club could use. They’ll have to wait a few years on Bear, a left wing from WHL Everett they selected 13th overall Friday at the NHL entry draft.
