Guy Pearce has jokingly admitted he “wanted to punch” a “snobby” actress who judged him for getting his start on Neighbours.

Guy Pearce has recalled an interaction with a “snobby” female actor, which left the LA Confidential star wanting to “punch her”. The Australian actor, who is currently up for an Academy Award for his supporting role in the acclaimed period drama The Brutalist, said that the incident took place around a year after he left the Aussie soap Neighbours.

“In the old days you were either a theatre actor or a film actor, and if you got stuck in a soap you were the lowest of the low — but what an opportunity,” the star said of landing the role of the handsome and hardworking Mike Young on the show.

Pearce was on Neighbours in the mid-to-late 1980s and reprised the role for the show's original 2022 finale (though it's since been revived). He noted of getting his start on a soap: That said, it really was frowned upon.
