Tropical Storm Erin formed on Monday in the far eastern Atlantic and is forecast to reach major hurricane strength by this weekend, the National Hurricane Center said.

A small yet organized tropical storm, Erin was holding maximum sustained winds of 45 miles per hour just west of the Cabo Verde islands on Monday. This is the farthest named storm of the 2025 Atlantic season to date, giving plenty of runway for the storm to further intensify.

Tropical Storm Erin has formed in the eastern Atlantic Ocean on Monday. Forecasters say it could become a major hurricane by the weekend.
