Tens of thousands of homes, farms and businesses in Ireland suffered power outages due to Storm Bert on Saturday, while some rail lines and roads were closed in Britain due to what forecasters called a "multi-hazard event".

Two amber warnings were issued as a "multiple-hazard event" hit the UK. Red alerts were issued for parts of Ireland.

Storm Bert bringing periods of rain and gales for Saturday. Very windy with persistent and occasionally heavy rain at first, becoming drier with the wind easing towards midday. Mainly dry with bright spells increasing during the afternoon. Milder than of late. Maximum temperature 14 °C.

Weather warnings are in place across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland due to heavy rain and strong winds caused by Storm Bert. Yellow warnings for rain, wind and snow are in force for the whole of Northern Ireland until 11:00 GMT on Saturday.

Some 47,000 homes remained without power in northern France on Saturday, two days after the country was battered by Storm Caetano, power company Enedis said. Up to 270,000 people had been cut off due to the storm but Enedis said it had 2,000 technicians working to reconnect electricity lines torn down by winds of up to 130kph.
