The Philippines' Kanlaon volcano erupted for nearly four minutes, shooting ash 2.5 miles into the sky and prompting the emergency evacuation of some 87,000 people.

The Philippines reported an “explosive eruption” at Kanlaon Volcano in its central Negros island, prompting authorities to advise evacuation around the volcano’s six-kilometer radius.

About 87,000 residents living within the six-kilometer danger zone of Mount Kanlaon on Negros island were being evacuated yesterday, a day after the volcano briefly erupted with a towering ash plume and superhot streams of gas and debris hurtling down its western slopes.
