The Los Angeles Times removed its new artificial intelligence feature from one of its articles on Tuesday — only 24 hours following its debut — after it shared a perspective downplaying the Ku Klux Klan's racist history.

The Los Angeles Times’ billionaire owner, who unveiled an AI tool that generates opposing perspectives to be displayed on Opinion stories, was unaware the new tool had created pro-KKK arguments less than 24 hours after it launched — and hours after the AI comments had been taken down.

Insights, a new Los Angeles Times AI-powered summary and "bias meter" tool, offered a rosy perspective on the Ku Klux Klan in Orange County.

Billionaire owner Patrick Soon-Shiong championed the feature as “the next evolution of the LA Times,” stating in a letter to readers that it would provide an “instantly accessible way to see a wide range of different AI-enabled perspectives alongside the positions presented in the article.”
