Reports have suggested snow may be on the way - this is what the national weather forecasting agency had to say

A white Christmas in the UK simply needs an observer or an automatic station to report a single snowflake falling on Christmas Day

Some sleet and snow is also likely at times, especially on high ground in the north.

Netweather's long-range winter forecast says colder weather may result from blocking high pressure in the mid-Atlantic or over Scandinavia, which "bodes well" for those hoping for a white Christmas.

According to the Met Office, Britons are more likely to see snow in January and February than in December. For the Met Office, a white Christmas is when just one snowflake falls anywhere in the UK during the 24 hours of December 25.

It's possible some Hoosiers could see a white Christmas in Indiana this year, but take that with a grain of salt. While it's still too early in the month to know for sure, one long-range forecast by AccuWeather is predicting a chance of rain or snow around the Indianapolis area for Christmas Day.

Where in the UK could see snow on Christmas Day? The Met Office have stated that northern parts of the UK are most likely to see snowfall over Christmas. Their forecast reads: ‘
