Jai Opetaia retained his IBF cruiserweight title Wednesday with a spectacular fourth-round KO of David Nyika in Gold Coast, Australia. Opetaia, ESPN's No. 1 cruiserweight, and Nyika engaged in a firefight from the opening bell that featured nonstop exchanges of power punches.

Opetaia, 29, enters this fight on the back of a stoppage win against Jack Massey in October, which followed a decision victory over Mairis Briedis – Opetaia’s second win against the former champion. In fact, Opetaia’s first fight with Briedis took place at the venue for today’s title bout: the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Opetaia vs Nyika will take place on Wednesday 8 January, at Australia’s Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre. The undercard will begin at 6pm local time, which is 8am GMT (12am PT / 2am CT / 3am ET). Ring-walk timings have not yet been announced, but are expected no earlier than 9pm local time, which is 11am GMT (3am PT / 5am CT / 6am ET).
