Former MLA Chennamaneni Ramesh, who got elected four times consecutively from Vemulawada in erstwhile Karimnagar district, received a setback with the Telangana High Court on Monday (December 9, 2024) imposing costs of ₹30 lakh on him for suppressing facts relating to his German citizenship.

The Telangana High Court fined former BRS leader Chennamaneni Ramesh ₹30 lakh for contesting elections with forged documents as a German citizen. He must pay ₹25 lakh to Congress’s Aadi Srinivas and ₹5 lakh to the Legal Service Authority.

The court ruled that Ramesh was unable to furnish proof from the German embassy to verify his non-citizenship status in Germany. Consequently, a fine of Rs 30 lakh was levied on him. Of this, Rs 25 lakh will need to be paid to Srinivas.
