As the Republican Party braces for aftershocks from President Donald Trump's spectacular clash with Elon Musk, lawmakers and conservative figures are urging détente, fearful of the potential consequences from a prolonged feud.

Musk's Dragon capsule is currently the only way that Trump can send American astronauts and supplies to the International Space Station. Musk threatened to decommission SpaceX's Dragon spacecraft 'immediately', but u-turned five hours later after one of his followers told him to 'cool off', tweeting: "Good advice. Ok, we won’t decommission Dragon."

President Trump said his relationship with Elon Musk might be over after Musk spent the past few days trying to defeat Trump's "big, beautiful bill."
