In a ceremony before the Seattle Storm hosted the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday, legendary former guard Sue Bird became the first WNBA player honored by her franchise with a statue outside of Climate Pledge Arena.

Seattle Storm legend Sue Bird became the first player in WNBA history to be honored with a statue. On Sunday, the team unveiled outside Climate Pledge Arena a statue of Bird shooting a layup in her Storm jersey, immortalizing her in Seattle as one of the all-time greats to suit up in the WNBA.

Longtime Seattle Storm point guard Sue Bird, who already had her jersey retired and a street in Seattle named after her, had a statue erected in her honor outside Climage Pledge Arena on Sunday morning.
