The current world Test champion team is Temba Bavuma 's and he is owning it.

South Africa, led by Temba Bavuma, broke their 27-year jinx of not winning an ICC Trophy. The Proteas defeated Australia by five wickets to win the WTC Final, and the victory will go down in history as the one who finally broke that dreaded ICC curse. The Proteas also did in in style, winning eight Tests in a row to win the title.

In a moment of pure elation and theatrical celebration, South African captain Temba Bavuma was spotted playfully mimicking a machine gun using the ICC Test Championship mace, following South Africa's thrilling five-wicket victory over Australia in the World Test Championship Final 2025 at Lord’s Cricket Ground, London.

Temba Bavuma has ended Day 3 on 65 runs from 121 balls. This is now the highest individual score by a captain in the WTC final. He overtakes Kane Williamson who scored 52 in the WTC 2021 final against India.

Bavuma, hence, became the second captain, after Percy Chapman in the 1920s, to win nine of their first ten Tests, and the second captain after Warwick Armstrong, also in the 1920s, to go unbeaten in his first ten Tests.
