SP and BJP accuse each other of Election irregularities, urge EC intervention The Samajwadi Party (SP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have both raised concerns over alleged election irregularities during the ongoing Uttar Pradesh bypolls.

The results of the Uttar Pradesh by-elections in nine assembly constituencies have reinforced the dominance of the BJP and its allies, who secured seven seats. The victory reflects Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s aggressive leadership, his emphasis on religious unity, and his appeal to transcend caste-based politics.

Among the 6 seats the BJP won are Kundarki, which had gone to either SP or BSP in the last 28 years, and Katehari that it last won in 1991.

The BJP was leading in four seats while the Samajwadi Party was ahead in two of the nine assembly seats for which bypolls were held, according to Election Commission trends on Saturday. The trends in the other three seats were yet to be reflected.

The bypoll in Uttar Pradesh is a massive turnaround for Yogi Adityanath and the BJP after the setback in 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Voting for the bypolls in Uttar Pradesh took place along the polling for assembly election in Maharashtra and Jharkhand on November 20.

The ruling BJP is leading in seven out of nine assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh whereas the Samajwadi Party had retained the Sisamau seat in Kanpur and was leading in Karhal seat in Mainpuri.
