When the direct speech (being reported) comes before the reporting clause, the comma separating them should be placed inside the inverted commas/quotation marks — not the other way round ...

Missing a letter, character or forgetting to include inverted commas/speech marks are ... to access an item in an array which does not exist eg item 11 in an array with only ten elements.
