NASA’s Webb Space Telescope was finally able to capture bright auroras on Neptune—the most distant planet in our solar system.

Thirty-six years after the first hints of auroral activity on the ice giant, astronomers have captured Neptune’s aurorae for the first time. Thanks to JWST, the planet’s elusive glow has been measured and it's not the only new insight these observations have delivered.

"Neptune was the missing piece of the puzzle when it came to detecting auroras on the giant planets," said the European Space Agency.
