When electric school bus manufacturer Lion Electric opened its sprawling 900,000 square-foot factory in Joliet last year, Gov. JB Pritzker and both Illinois senators attended the ceremony. The electric bus and truck manufacturer announced 400 more temporary layoffs in Canada and the United States, adding to the 520 workers that were laid off earlier this year.

Lion Electric, which manufactures electric buses, will suspend its operations at its Channahon facility , the company announced in a press release Tuesday.

Lion Electric, a Quebec-based electric bus manufacturer, says it will temporarily lay off 400 employees in the US and Canada. As a result, it will also suspend production at its facility in Illinois.

Quebec remains open to helping support Lion Electric financially – once again - provided the private sector is part of the equation.
