The teams continued to slug it out and trade leads during a back-and-forth finish to regulation. Michigan took the lead twice in the final three minutes, the last time on a driving layup by Gayle for a 65-63 edge with 34 seconds remaining.

The Michigan Wolverines moved to 14-4 (6-1 Big Ten) on the season with an 80-76 overtime win over the Northwestern Wildcats on Sunday afternoon in Ann Arbor. Michigan shot only 36% from the floor but was able to get enough to secure a victory in its second overtime game in as many outings,
