Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar led the proceedings for President Donald Trump’s inauguration. This sight may have surprised some since Klobuchar is a Democrat. So why was she involved in Trump’s inauguration?

Klobuchar was joined by other members of Minnesota’s congressional delegation at Monday’s inauguration: U.S. Sen. Tina Smith; U.S. Reps. Brad Finstad, Angie Craig, Kelly Morrison, Tom Emmer, Michelle Fischbach and Pete Stauber. U.S. Reps. Betty McCollum and Ilhan Omar were not in attendance.

The inaugural luncheon, which took place around 90 minute after the official swearing-in of President Donald Trump Monday, featured apples from Minnesota.

While the Minnesota Democrat didn’t vote for Trump, she called his inauguration to order as chair of the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies.

The bipartisan leaders of the 60th Inaugural Committee kicked off the Inauguration Day swearing-in ceremony by highlighting the importance of American democracy as the country is close to celebrating 250 years.
