Wildfires which have killed at least 16 people and left behind widespread destruction in Los Angeles County continue to burn Friday while more strong winds and challenging weather conditions are forecasted for the coming days.

Eaton Fire initially started 6:18 p.m. Jan. 7 in Los Angeles County. Since its discovery four days ago, it has burned 14,117 acres. A fire crew of 3,155 has been working on site and, as of Saturday evening, they managed to contain 15% of the fire. However, investigations into the cause are ongoing.

Many watched their homes burn on television in a state of shock. Since the flames erupted in and around Los Angeles, scores of residents have returned to their still smoldering neighborhoods even as the threat of new fires persisted and the nation’s second-largest city remained unsettled.
