Thankfully, the Geminids can be seen across the globe, even down here in Florida. The best times to see them are during the night and predawn hours when it's darkest outside. The shower typically starts around 9 or 10 p.m.

The Geminid meteor shower, which NASA calls one of the "best meteor showers of the year," is expected to peak Friday and Saturday. The big picture: The shower appears around mid-December each year as Earth passes through the debris left behind by the asteroid 3200 Phaethon.

The National Weather Service’s forecast for Wichita shows a mostly cloudy night with possible light rain, but the night is expected to gradually clear, which could help stargazers. The low is expected to be around 37 degrees Fahrenheit. The sun will set at 5:11 p.m. on Dec. 13 and rise at 7:36 a.m. the following day, according to timeanddate.com.
