George Kittle is set up to finish his career with the San Francisco 49ers after inking a four-year extension with the organization that takes him through his age-36 season. However, days before he came to terms on that extension, one club tried to pry the star tight end out of the Bay Area.

Months of negotiation ended shortly after the draft when All-Pro tight end George Kittle signed a 5-year, $91.4M extension. However, before that deal was cemented there was a stunning deal on the table the 49ers passed on — one that perhaps they should have thought about.

The Athletic's Dianna Russini reported on her podcast Scoop City that there was an unnamed team interested in Kittle the night before the NFL draft last week. The 49ers even talked about trading him for a second-round pick. But, in the end, Kittle was destined to remain in San Francisco.
