Some residents evacuated after a sinkhole opened up on their street will soon be able to return home. A void emerged on Nant Morlais in Pant, Merthyr Tydfil, on Sunday that was said to be 9-12m (30-40ft) deep and five metres (16ft) wide. There were worries householders might not be able to return until after Christmas.

Elderly residents in Merthyr Tydfil, south Wales, who were evacuated after a massive sinkhole opened up in their quiet cul-de-sac may not be back in their homes by Christmas.

It could be months until evacuated residents are able to return to their homes, one home owner says.
