The mother of a British lawyer, who died from a suspected mass methanol poisoning in the Southeast Asian country of Laos, has spoken publicly for the first time about the horrendous experience of flying 16 hours to be by her daughter’s bedside.

The local governor visited the hostel in which some of the victims were staying, promising justice for those responsible.

At least six tourists who traveled to Laos have died in recent days, prompting international alarm about the dangers of consuming alcoholic drinks that contain methanol.

Authorities in Laos have reportedly banned the sale and consumption of a vodka and whisky brand after six tourists died from suspected methanol poisoning in Vang Vieng earlier this month. An Australia travel advisory published on Friday said the Southeast Asian country has banned Tiger Vodka and Tiger Whisky.

Six tourists from Australia, Denmark, the United States, and the United Kingdom died in Laos due to methanol poisoning. In response to these tragic events, the country's authorities banned the sale and consumption of a specific brand of vodka and whiskey.
