WOONSOCKET, R.I. — A Providence police sergeant is accused of domestic violence after a woman in Woonsocket told police that he attacked her last week. Providence Police Sergeant Peter Salmons was arraigned Wednesday on charges of domestic simple assault and domestic disorderly conduct, both misdemeanors.

Sgt. Peter Salmons was put on paid administrative leave, pending an internal investigation, according to Mayor Brett Smiley.
