Boston City Councilor Tania Fernandes Anderson’s arrest last week on federal theft and fraud charges was only the latest in a string of ethics and campaign finance violations to plague the second-term Democrat.

Elected in 2021: Fernandes Anderson, a Democrat, immigrated from Cape Verde to Boston at age 10 and became a US citizen in 2019. She was elected to the council in 2021 and reelected in 2023. She represents District 7, which covers multiple neighborhoods including Roxbury, Dorchester, the South End, and Fenway.
