R-Truth's quick return to WWE involved direct negotiations with one of the company's top executives. Fightful Select (via Steve Carrier of Ringside News) reported Truth initially seemed to be a little reticent to engage with WWE in the days after his exit. However, "things opened up" when WWE president Nick Khan entered the picture.

Since then, R-Truth made a surprise return at Money in the Bank, attacking WWE Champion John Cena in the PLE 's main event and helping to play a part in Cody Rhodes pinning Cena in the tag match pitting Rhodes and Jey Uso against Cena and Logan Paul.
