Recently, the EU imposed big fines on Apple and Meta, two of the leading US big tech companies. Apple was the hardest hit with a €500 million fine. Meta, on the other hand, got a €200 million one. The sanctions come in response to certain business practices at both firms.

The US criticized the EU fines on Apple and Meta, calling them “economic extortion." It also attacked the DMA legislation.

The White House said on Wednesday that fines on Apple and Meta Platforms by the European Union were a "novel form of economic extortion" that the United States will not tolerate. Apple was fined 500 million euros ($570 million) on Wednesday and Meta 200 million euros,
