Hoping for drastic improvement, the Bears are turning their offense over to Harsin, who will also serve as Cal’s quarterbacks coach.

Former Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin is set to accept the offensive coordinator position at Cal, ESPN reported Monday.

“Former Boise State and Auburn coach Bryan Harsin is set to become @CalFootball’s OC, sources tell @ESPNRittenberg and me,” Chris Low said in a post. “Harsin and Cal coach Justin Wilcox previously worked together as coordinators on Chris Petersen’s staff at Boise State.”

In addition to head coaching stints at Auburn (2021-22), Boise State (2014-20) and Arkansas State (2013), Harsin has also been offensive coordinator at Boise State (2006-10) and Texas (2010-11). He played quarterback at Boise State from 1995-99.

Justin Wilcox and Harsin worked together at Boise State as assistants with Wilcox running the defense and Harsin the offense from 2006-09 when the Broncos went 49-4.

Harsin coached the Tigers to a 9-12 record and recruited a pair of the worst recruiting classes in school history in his two seasons on the Plains.

Harsin, who was fired amid controversy at Auburn two years ago, reportedly close to joining Wilcox’s staff with the Cal Bears.

Harsin spent the past two seasons away from the sideline but previously held offensive coordinator roles at Boise State and Texas.
