Texas Democratic lawmakers expected to confront many uncertainties when they left the state in a last-ditch attempt to block Republicans from pushing through a new congressional map.

A lawsuit filed Friday in downstate Adams County seeks an order recognizing civil arrest warrants issued by the Texas House of Representatives for Democrats who fled to Illinois to thwart a redistricting vote.

The attorney general is calling on the “full faith and credit” clause of the U.S. Constitution, which says states should typically honor each other’s judicial proceedings.
