The California Governor has sued the U.S. President over the mobilization of the National Guard, calling it “an unmistakable step toward authoritarianism.”

Congressional Republicans on Monday were quick to endorse President Donald Trump’s deployment of the National Guard to quell violent Los Angeles protests against the administration’s crackdown on illegal immigration.

The swiftly evolving situation in the Los Angeles area over protests surrounding immigration enforcement actions has also cued up a public spat between President Donald Trump and Gov. Gavin Newsom, the California governor who has been one of the Republican president's most vocal Democratic critics.
