Nolan McLean was in trouble in his major league debut Saturday, but with the bases loaded, he made a highlight-reel play to erase the Mariners threat.

Nolan McLean did not arrive in Queens with much experience in the art of being a savior. Prior to McLean’s debut Saturday, Mets officials had all but thrown up bright yellow caution signs, begging fans not to place him on too high of a pedestal.

Gregory Soto relieved him to keep the Mets up 1-0, officially closing the book on McLean’s big league debut. In all, McLean tossed 91 pitches, 55 of which went for strikes. He largely used sweepers (36 percent) mixed in with sinkers (26 percent) and curveballs (21 percent).
