Cotinus leaves (Smokebush) eco printed on watercolour paper…that’s an iron soaked blanket that I used to mingle with those tannins in the leaves, producing some lovely blue hues and creating that purple background. Fresh leaves are wrapped in paper, bound up tightly and simmered in a dyepot for 90 minutes. The prints certain leaves give you, are breathtaking. Come prepare a batch of Magnolia skeletal leaves with me! Leaves were soaked in water for four weeks. After that, a high-pressure water nozzle made it easy to wash away the softened leaf pulp. Some gorgeous colours being revealed here on Watercolour paper. Those Magnolia skeletal leaves generally print faintly, but here I soaked them in a weak iron solution before printing, to achieve that soft purple/blue. I used about a teaspoon of homemade iron acetate in a bucket of water, and soaked them for a few days. Loved the way the Silky Oak gave that vibrant gold too. | Paper Cloth Studio
