In 1952, amid growing fears linking smoking to cancer, Kent cigarettes introduced a new “Micronite” filter marketed as a safety feature. What smokers weren’t told was that the filter contained asbestos. With every inhalation, microscopic asbestos fibers were released into smokers’ lungs. Years later, this led to severe illnesses including lung cancer and mesothelioma.
