We did our usual rescue drive from 4 am this morning to mop up after people on the roads have hit and left wildlife behind. 4 dead wombats, fortunately no joeys, and 4 healthy live wombats we chased off the road. But we did find the most heartbreaking scene I’ve ever seen. A wombat was sitting on top of another wombat and initial thought was they are fighting. But when we stopped we realised one is dead, and has been for at least a few days, and the other must be her large joey trying to get her
